Hello,

I am wondering if there is anywhere a list of exact release dates of sierra adventure titles.

I know that there are lists on Wikipedia / ScummVM Wiki, but they don't list the real order in which games were released (games released within any specific year seem to appear in random order, and not in the order they were released).

Thanks!

Reines such a reference list would be awesome!

How would you go about finding out the exact release dates? I guess you could go through computer magazines / reviews which would narrow it down quite well?

EDIT: The information on wikipedia is quite good. E.g. for Space Quest:

Space Quest 1: October 1986
Space Quest 2: November 14, 1987
Space Quest 3: March 24, 1989
Space Quest 4: December 1992
Space Quest 5: February 5, 1993
Space Quest 6: released in 1995

This is taken straight from the Space Quest article on wikipedia...

jharris01 - for the purpose of order Smiley I think it makes sense to list those in chronological order, according to their release dates.

Anyway, I think such a list could possibly be compiled using Passigar's project (AGI SCI & SCUMM) by taking the date from the earliest appearance of every game, though I'm not sure how accurate that would be as a release date.

I opened the topic as I thought there might be such a list somewhere, and perhaps I just don't find it...

It would probably be easier to put together a "last build date" for the earliest version you could find for each game.  Except for the earliest games which were released on non-DOS based disks, you could look at the timestamps of the files to determine the date of build for the game.

One official source for release dates would be the U.S. Copyright Office, which is searchable on-line. While this doesn't guarantee that these are always correct --- the release date for Mystery House listed there differs from other sources --- it's probably the best you can get.

Thanks for the tip! There indeed are many release dates there (I tried to compile a list from the information there), but as you said, many are incorrect.

In addition, for some games, like Black Cauldron, Sierra didn't claim copyrights (as in this case, for example, it was copyrighted by Disney) so they don't appear there. Many other games, just don't appear there at all, without any obvious reason.

I was hoping there was some official sierra catalog somewhere that someone kept, but it seems that's not the case... Maybe it never even existed.

Perhaps there is another, more complete and accurate source somewhere?
