Very recently I bought a Turtle Beach Monterey on eBay. It consists of a TB Tahiti and TB Rio daughterboard. I installed it on a Pentium III computer running Windows 98SE, using the Windows 95 drivers. Although this worked fine, I tried to put the Rio on one of my Diamond MX300 soundcards. Due to the unfortunate placing of the components on the Rio, this does not fit. Then I started looking for another soundcard in my collection that will take the Rio: Aureal Vortex2 2500, Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, several Creative SB16 and AWE32 cards and a Roland MPU401-AT. No luck.... The Rio would not fit properly on any of these cards, either the crystal or one of the capacitors would get in the way.
I also tried the breakout box of a Terratec DMX6fire 24/96, which can hold a WaveBlaster type board. Again, a capacitor got in the way.
I tried putting an extra 26 pin header between the WB connector on the soundcard and the Rio, but I suppose the pins were too short, because that did not work.
I suppose I could remove the capacitors and solder them onto the other side of the Rio, but I'd rather not.
Does anyone here have a good suggestion to solve this problem (other than trying to find a fitting header to space the Rio and soundcard further apart)? A tip for a different host card maybe?

I used Rio on my MX300 and burn the last one. The only card I know of that works OK with Rio is ESS 1868. Usually there are not so many components on them and Rio fits perfectly. Plus ESS is SB compatible.

Did you burn out the Rio or the MX300?
My Rio is a revision 3.0, which has slightly different component placement from the previous revision 2.x.
I may look for an ESS card, but do you know a type/brand of board that is suitable?

Thank you. But did the Rio at least work on the MX300 before it burned out?

It did work. But it was VERY loud! I think what happened was that Rio didn't sit well enough on the MX300 and Ground wire wasn't connected.

DB50XG on the MX300 is very loud too, I need to set the volume for MPU-401/Aux rather low. Shame about the MX300 though.

Don't know about DB50XG, but my NEC clone of DB60XG works fine on MX300.
I still can't fine that ESS card, I've got 5 boxes with different hardware Wink
