I directed a friend from the AGDI boards who just acquired his first MT-32 to these forums and it seems that registration is closed? Why is that?

IIRC you have to click the link at the top of the main forum page that says "HOW DO I REGISTER?" and follow the instructions there.

Registration is indeed active, but only to those who follow the instructions outlined at http://queststudios.com/smf/index.php/topic,2027.0.html.  I've been registering new members on a regular basis.
