Does anyone know what Roland Sound Source is? I've noticed that name on a few CDs I have, primarily PC-Engine CD games, and I was wondering what exactly it is.

I think what Fancia had in mind was...Is the Roland Sound Source MT-32 compatible or GM/GS compatible?  I guess that would depend on when the CD came out..if the MT-32 was still in popularity or not. If not, then I would guess that it would probably be Roland GM/GS.  But this is just my best guess, I guess.  :?

I remember when LucasArts' "LOOM" came out you could send away for the optional "Roland Sound Support" (which of course, I did.)  It provided support for the MT-32, but they simply referred to it as "Roland".

I think the Roland Sound Source (RSS) mentioned refers to Roland's 3-dimensional reverb; similar to QSound.

That would most likely be it, Cloudshatze. The PC-Engine CD, which is a console system, doesn't support any MIDI options; these games (Ys IV, Dracula X) use CD audio for their music.

RSS is for Roland Sound Space. It's merely a definition that suggests how to get the best of your speakers by positioning them in a specific way.

No.

From Roland's website:

"RSS
For "Roland Sound Space," an effect that produces a three-dimensional audio image in which sound seems to be coming from the front, side, above or below the listener. "

Many of Roland's products having COSM-based effects processors feature the RSS effect.
