I've got a big problem and haven't found a solution yet.
I'm trying to record some mid files played by my external sound module, to get an mp3 or wav output file.
I currently have a SBlive 5.1. The sound module is connected to the line input. Unfortuneately I can't record the files without any backgroung signal noise. (really much noise, I think!!) I tried most out!!
How can I produce a noiseless mp3 track of the mid file. (= recording the line input of the SBLIVE to mp3)
Do I need a better sound card? Would an Audigy 2 ZS help? What is the problem? The AD-DA convertion?

I need your help!!!

The analog line in on the back of the soundcard is really noisy. I use an external box  that has its own ADC so I don't have that problem. You can remove the noise from the sound module by applying digital filters that remove only the noise. The more advanced recording programs should come with some filtering features.

moturimi1, what program do you use to record? The SBLive 5.1 I use
is noisier than the Audigy, but overall it's *not really noisy*. Certainly not as bad as you're making out.. might be program related. Also, what settings do you have for audio in your XP (I assume XP) 'sounds and audio devices' control panel setting?

It seems it's really the Line-IN port that's causing the noise. I tried to record midi on my 2.computer with a Terratec Maestro32/96. The Line IN of this card is much better than the one of the SBLIVE, although it's still noisy.

A ground loop isolator cable will remove most of the noise.  Additional noise can be filtered digitally.

There's a link there to Radio Shack so you can see exactly what you probably want.  It costs about $17.

I recorded this mp3 the same way you did (SC-55 to line in) using my SBlive value!

IMO the SBlive value can't be better than your SBlive 5.1. But my *.mp3 recording is ok (can't hear any noise).

I use goldwave 3.03 to record the *.wav and converted it to *.mp3

BTW: The awesome tune is from the game Privateer!
